Charge costs and savings

In the Jedlix platform we calculate the charge costs and savings of a session. For every session, Jedlix calculates two different volume profiles:

  1. The actual volume
  2. The baseline volume

These volumes and the tariffs of the user are used to calculate the savings. See Energy charged for an elaboration of how this is done.

Session costs

For both of these volumes, Baseline and Actual, the costs are calculated based on the tariffs that apply at the charge location where the session took place. To be clear, this is using the tariffs that the EV driver has set up for the charge location.

Session savings

The savings are then determined as follows:

Savings = BaselineCosts - ActualCosts

Since Jedlix optimizes for the user tariff, our algorithm will try to charge at the lowest rates. This should normally lead to positive savings. However, this might not happen in exceptional cases. When charging is initially paused, but the EV or charger refuses to start charging upon sending commands, for example. In these cases the resulting behavior might be less beneficial than if the session would have been a non-smart session.
